Most installations can be finished in one day.
Generators require maintenance service every 50 hours of use, or once each year. It is a good idea to have this done by a factory-trained service technician.
Many electricians can install standby generators, but there are many pitfalls they may encounter. For your generator to operate properly, it must be installed in a certain way. We represent manufacturers like Kohler, Generac, Briggs and Stratton, Guardian etc., and we perform all of their repair work in our area while the units are under warranty. In that function, GSE is asked on behalf of the manufacturer to examine why a generator has failed to operate properly. In the majority of cases, we find the cause to be improper installation, and improper adjustments made by the original installer. Many manufacturers have made policy changes requiring that units must be installed by a factory authorized dealer in order for the warranty to be honored. Simply put, it is probably a good idea to have your generator installed only by a factory-trained and authorized installer
You can ask for their dealer identification or credentials, but it is easier to go onto the internet, under the site for the manufacturer. There is normally a dealer locator tab where you can authenticate your installer’s credentials.
Yes! These units are generally designed for continuous duty and can operate for days without shutting them off. It is a good practice though, to turn a unit off for a short cool down period once a day if you are experiencing a prolonged outage. An hour is sufficient to “cool down” a generator. Remember to check your oil level in your generator, just like you do in your automobile. Or you may call us to perform this, or to schedule any maintenance or service functions.
